Constitution 1857 National Park

Constitution 1857 National Park is a protected area in the Sierra de Juarez that features pine forests, rocky outcrops, and the natural freshwater Laguna Hansen lake system. The terrain offers varied landscapes with mountainous areas and forest patches that together create a diverse natural habitat.

The area was declared a national park by the Mexican government in 1962 to protect forest resources and create recreational space. This establishment was part of Mexico's early efforts to safeguard important natural landscapes.

The park is home to rare animals like bighorn sheep and mule deer that visitors can spot in their natural habitat. These wild populations shape the character of the landscape and show why this place matters for protecting local species.

The park sits about 96 kilometers east of Ensenada along Highway 3 and is accessible by car. Overnight options like camping areas and cabins are available on-site for extended visits.

The area contains Laguna Hansen, the only natural freshwater lake on the Baja California peninsula, which freezes over during winter months. This rare occurrence creates an icy landscape that few other places in the region can offer.
