Pauley Pavilion, Indoor sports arena at University of California Los Angeles, United States
Pauley Pavilion is an indoor sports hall at the University of California Los Angeles in the state of California, built with permanent seating for over eleven thousand spectators plus additional retractable seating. The facility includes several full-sized basketball courts, team locker rooms, and a club-like area with limited capacity for guests and members.
The sports hall opened in June 1965 after Edwin W. Pauley contributed a large sum of money, matching the funds already raised through a university fundraising campaign. Over the following decades the facility was renovated and modernized several times to meet the demands of collegiate sports.
The indoor sports venue bears the name of Edwin W. Pauley, an oil businessman and university regent whose donation made construction possible. UCLA basketball teams play their home games here before crowds of students and fans from across the city.
The hall sits within the UCLA campus grounds and opens to visitors during basketball games and other sporting events. Access and opening times depend on the event calendar, so checking the program before visiting is worthwhile.
On March 2, 2013, nearly fourteen thousand spectators came to watch the game between UCLA and Arizona Wildcats, marking the highest attendance figure ever recorded at this hall. The game ended with a home team victory and showed the passion for college basketball in the region.
