Melrose Avenue is a street in Los Angeles running from Santa Monica Boulevard to Lucile Avenue, lined with diverse retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues throughout. The commercial heart spans several blocks in the western and central portions of the thoroughfare.
The street was paved in 1909 and named after a town in Massachusetts. It became part of Los Angeles in 1922 following a voter petition.
The eastern section between Fairfax and Highland became a hub for underground fashion and punk subcultures in the 1980s. You can still see traces of that rebellious spirit in the storefronts and street art today.
The street is accessible by multiple bus lines, with parking available in dedicated lots and on side streets throughout the area. Arriving early helps secure good parking and avoid crowds.
