Civic Center, Administrative district in Downtown Los Angeles, US.

The Civic Center is an administrative district in northern Downtown Los Angeles with numerous government buildings and courthouses. It stretches between Bunker Hill and Little Tokyo, containing a collection of structures built over several decades.

Development began in the 1920s with Los Angeles City Hall finished in 1928 as the first major building of the planned governmental complex. Additional government structures were constructed nearby over the following decades to form a cohesive administrative center.

Grand Park sits between government buildings and hosts concerts, festivals, and community events throughout the year. The open space draws people from across the city for gatherings and performances.

The Regional Connector transit system and multiple bus lines serve the district, connecting it to other areas of the city. The walkways are generally wide and the terrain is relatively flat, making it easy to move around on foot.

The district contains one of the largest concentrations of government employees in the United States, surpassed only by Washington, D.C. This high concentration makes it one of the most important administrative centers outside the nation's capital.
