Cordelia A. Culbertson House
Cordelia A. Culbertson House, Historic residence on Hillcrest Avenue, Pasadena, United States.
The Cordelia A. Culbertson House is a single-family home in Pasadena with a U-shaped floor plan, gunite exterior walls, and a green-tiled roof. At the heart of the design sits an Italian garden with plants and pathways that create distinct outdoor rooms.
The house was built in 1911 by architects Charles and Henry Greene for three unmarried sisters. In 1917, the owners sold it to Mrs. Dudley P. Allen, marking a shift in the residence's occupancy and stewardship.
The house blends Craftsman style with Eastern influences in a way that shows how early 1900s wealthy homeowners mixed design traditions from different parts of the world.
The interior has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms spread across the structure, connected by wide hallways and varied floor levels. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since exploring the home involves walking through multiple rooms and navigating different heights.
The entry hall features custom dark wood furniture designed by Charles Greene himself, paired with plaster wall finishes and exotic marble details. These handmade elements show the Greene brothers' dedication to craft and their work with skilled local artisans.
