Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, Jewish cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, US.
Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery sits at 5950 Forest Lawn Drive in the Hollywood Hills, close to Warner Bros Studios in California. The grounds spread over gently sloping hillsides with manicured lawns, trees, and pathways running between burial sections.
Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills founded the grounds in 1953 as part of a larger cemetery complex. Six years later, in 1959, the section became reserved exclusively for Jewish burials and placed under rabbinic guidance.
The name connects the biblical meaning of Mount Sinai with the traditional Jewish burial practice carried out here under rabbinic supervision. Families come to visit their departed on high holidays and continue the tradition of placing small stones on gravestones.
Pathways lead through different sections, each with its own layout and memorials. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as some sections sit on hillsides and the grounds offer little shade on warm days.
A memorial designed by Bernard Zakheim honors Holocaust victims with separate markers for different extermination camps. The Heritage Mosaic, made of 2.5 million Venetian glass pieces, measures 145 by 30 feet (44 by 9 meters) and depicts Jewish experiences in America.
