La Kretz Bridge

La Kretz Bridge is a cable-stayed pedestrian crossing over the Los Angeles River in Atwater Village that links two communities together. It features a central tower and two decks where different users can safely pass one another.

The project began in 2012 with a major donation and was completed in 2020. The bridge became an important step in connecting the nature preserve with the adjacent residential area.

The bridge connects a residential neighborhood with a nature preserve and provides separate spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, and those on horseback. Each group has its own lane, showing how the structure welcomes different types of visitors.

The bridge has wide, clearly marked paths for each user group, making it straightforward and comfortable to cross. The structure is solidly built and remains safe to walk on throughout the year.

The bridge uses a two-deck concept that separates different types of movement from one another to ensure safety. This design is uncommon for small pedestrian bridges and makes it a notable example of modern infrastructure.
