Laguna Beach, Coastal city in Orange County, United States.
Laguna Beach is a coastal city in Orange County, California, that follows roughly seven miles (eleven kilometers) of Pacific Ocean shoreline. The city combines sandy beaches with rocky coves and a hilly interior that rises toward the Santa Ana Mountains.
The first permanent settlers of European descent arrived in the 1870s, when farming families began working the land. During the early decades of the twentieth century, the place developed into an artist colony that drew painters and writers.
The Laguna Beach Art Association, formed in 1918, laid the foundation for what would become the Laguna Beach Art Museum and numerous art galleries.
Most beaches sit along the coast highway and can be reached via stairways or paths leading down to the shore. Public parking lots and bus stops are near the main access points, making it easy to reach different sections of the coast.
Several thousand acres of wilderness lie within the city limits, protecting coastal vegetation and mountain habitats. These protected lands stretch from the ocean up into the surrounding hills.
