Azusa, Residential city in San Gabriel Valley, California, US
Azusa is a residential city in the San Gabriel Valley in California, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Los Angeles. It stretches along the San Gabriel River at the foot of the mountains.
The area was known as Rancho el Susa starting in 1841 and officially became a city in 1898. The settlement grew along the river during the late 19th century.
The name comes from the Tongva word Asuksa-nga and refers to the river and mountains around the settlement. Downtown displays banners honoring local residents serving in the military.
The Metro Rail A Line connects the city to downtown Los Angeles, offering convenient access. Drivers can reach it via several routes through the San Gabriel Valley.
In the 1950s, the world's first go-kart factory opened here in 1958. Production of these small racing vehicles shaped the recreational industry at the time.
