Eagle Mountain, Ghost town in Riverside County, United States.

Eagle Mountain is a ghost town in Riverside County featuring hundreds of deteriorating buildings and deserted streets arranged near the entrance of a former iron mine. The settlement sprawls across a large area with residential homes, commercial structures, and public facilities that remain frozen in time and exposed to the desert climate.

Kaiser Corporation founded Eagle Mountain in 1948 to support iron mining operations, and the town grew rapidly into a thriving community. Mining activity eventually ceased in 1981, leading to the town's decline and the gradual abandonment of its buildings.

The town operated multiple schools, recreational facilities, and community centers, fostering education and social connections among mining families.

This location sits roughly 13 miles north of Desert Center and is accessible via Kaiser Road from California State Route 177. Visitors should note that the site is fenced and special permissions may be required to explore certain areas.

The abandoned mining pits here attracted proposals for conversion into a hydroelectric facility using water reservoirs to generate power. This forward-looking concept shows how former industrial sites could be repurposed as renewable energy sources.
