This event took place on July 16, 1945, as part of the Manhattan Project.
The test site is now a National Historic Landmark known as White Sands Missile Range.
Visitations are allowed only twice a year, on the first Saturdays of April and October.
Trinity's mushroom cloud plume reached 38,000 feet within seven minutes.
