Zipolite, Clothing-optional beach in San Pedro Pochutla Municipality, Mexico

Zipolite is a golden sand beach in San Pedro Pochutla Municipality on Mexico's Pacific coast. The strand stretches between rocky cliffs and offers views of ocean waves crashing against the shoreline.

The area was home to just one fishing family until the 1960s, when it began transforming into a gathering point for international travelers. This shift marked the beginning of a new chapter for the remote coastal location.

The name comes from the Zapotec language meaning 'beach of the dead', referencing the powerful currents visible in the water. Today, visitors notice how this location draws people from different backgrounds who gather and share time together.

The best way to arrive is through airports in Puerto Escondido or Huatulco, followed by local transportation options like taxis and buses. It helps to come early to explore the beach and find the best spots along the shoreline.

The Festival Nudista takes place each February and draws naturism enthusiasts from across the region. It is notable that this is Mexico's first and only legally recognized public naturist beach.
