Mermejita

Mermejita, Beach in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Mermejita is a beach along the Pacific coast of Oaxaca with fine sand and light-colored water, bordered by two headlands. The eastern section offers good viewpoints for observing sea life, while the western end features rock formations.

The beach remained completely uninhabited until recently, when people began building houses there. This settlement happened in response to the area's natural appeal and gradually changed the character of this location.

The beach is one of the few locations in Oaxaca where endangered leatherback turtles still come to lay eggs. This natural occurrence makes the place special for both locals and visitors as a place to witness wildlife.

The best access is from the nearby town of San Pedro Pochutla, from where the coast is easy to reach. Sturdy shoes are helpful since the eastern section is rocky and uneven.

At the western end stands a natural rock formation called Ventana, while Toron Rock at the eastern end is home to whales, dolphins, and orcas. These rocks give visitors safe places to watch these sea creatures.
