Huatulco National Park

The protected area extends across 11,890 hectares, featuring nine bays with coastal and marine habitats that support diverse plant and animal species.

The Mexican government established Huatulco National Park in 1998, leading to its recognition as a Ramsar wetland site in 2003 for wetland conservation.

Local communities participate in conservation efforts through eco-tourism initiatives, sharing their knowledge of regional traditions and natural heritage with visitors.

Guided tours operate from December to April during the dry season, offering activities such as snorkeling, hiking, and birdwatching through marked trails.

The park contains 9,000 plant species, representing half of Mexico's total plant diversity, with tropical dry forest covering 80 percent of its territory.
