Museo Miraflores

Museo Miraflores is an archaeological museum in Zone 11 that preserves three ancient Mayan mounds within its garden grounds. The exhibition spaces alongside these structures display artifacts and findings that help explain the significance of the site.

The museum was established in 2002 to preserve findings from Kaminaljuyu, an ancient city that once thrived at this location. Its collections were built from excavations conducted in the 1990s that revealed important information about the settlement that preceded modern Guatemala City.

The museum displays indigenous textiles from the Guatemalan Highlands, created by local artisans using techniques passed down through generations. You can see how these works continue to serve as both cultural expression and connection to community heritage.

The museum sits between two shopping centers, making it easy to reach and combine with other activities in the area. The garden grounds with ancient structures are open to exploration, and the exhibition halls are laid out in a way that guides you naturally through the collection.

The entrance hall features a glass floor displaying a map of the ancient city layout overlaid with modern Guatemala City streets. This design choice shows visitors how the contemporary metropolis was built directly over the remains of what once stood there.
