Mixco

Mixco is a municipality in Guatemala Department situated at 1,650 meters elevation and separated from Guatemala City by deep ravines. The area spans approximately 96 square kilometers and functions as a residential zone for people who work in the adjacent capital.

The municipality was established in 1526 and underwent significant change when the La Florida district separated and merged with Guatemala City in 1958. This event reshaped the area's development and administrative structure.

Spanish is the main language spoken here, though indigenous languages like Q'eqchi, K'iche, Mam, and Kaqchikel remain actively used by residents. These languages reflect the community's diverse roots and shape daily interactions throughout the area.

Several bridges connect the municipality to Guatemala City and facilitate daily commutes for workers. Visitors should familiarize themselves with local transportation options to navigate between neighborhoods.
