The Basílica de Suyapa is a modern religious building in Tegucigalpa featuring clean architectural lines and substantial stone walls that define its structure. Large windows flood the interior with natural light, creating a bright and open worship space.

The Virgin of Suyapa was declared patroness of Honduras in 1925. In 1943 Bishop Emilio Morales Roque ordered a new sanctuary after the image was stolen in 1936; the Zúñiga-Inestroza family donated the land. Archbishop José de la Cruz Turcios y Barahona laid the first stone in 1954, and Pope Francis made it a minor basilica on 9 September 2015.
