Itagüí, Industrial municipality in Aburrá Valley, Colombia.
Itagüí is a municipality in Antioquia Department, sitting just south of Medellín and part of the Aburrá Valley metropolitan region. The area covers several neighborhoods with residential blocks, commercial streets, and public squares linked by a network of main roads.
The settlement received its name in 1743 after an indigenous leader and developed during the 19th century with telegraph connections. Industrialization began in the 1960s with the construction of assembly plants and factories in the southern part of the municipality.
The House of Culture Diego Echavarría Misas and Museum Graciliano Arcila Vélez present local art collections and host regular cultural exhibitions throughout the year.
The metro connects the municipality with Medellín through several stations along the southern line. Many facilities and shops cluster around the metro stops and along the main avenues radiating from the center.
Auteco opened Colombia's first motorcycle assembly plant in Itagüí during 1962, initiating the region's industrial development.
