Soacha, Industrial municipality in Cundinamarca, Colombia
Soacha is a municipality in Cundinamarca that belongs to the Bogotá metropolitan area and extends across slopes and flat zones. The settlement is organized into eight communes with residential neighborhoods, commercial districts and public squares.
The place was founded in 1600 by Luis Enríquez at a former Muisca settlement whose name derives from the Chibcha words for sun and man. The municipality grew into a residential area for commuters working in the capital during the 20th century.
The neighborhood around the park preserves regional bakery traditions, where fresh almojabanas and buñuelos are prepared daily for residents and visitors. Homemade arequipe is still crafted following handed-down recipes in small kitchens.
The municipality sits close to Bogotá and is accessible via several road connections, allowing visitors to move easily between both places. Residential areas offer more affordable lodging than the capital's city center.
The Ciudad Verde project introduced a new generation of housing complexes with integrated green spaces and playgrounds starting in 2010. This development changed the urban layout and brought parks directly into neighborhoods.
