Gondava, Dinosaur theme park in Sáchica, Colombia

Gondava is a 34-hectare theme park near Villa de Leyva, in Sáchica, Boyacá, opened in late 2009. Its main attraction is full-size replicas of extinct animals, mostly dinosaurs, some built of concrete over metal frames and others of flexible materials that allow limited movement. The largest is a 14-metre-tall brachiosaurus. Two lakes, one recreating aquatic species, walking paths, a maze and a dig area with a titanoboa and an ichthyosaur complete the visit.

The park was established to complement the region's rich paleontological history, with numerous fossil discoveries found throughout the surrounding Boyacá department. This connection to Colombia's scientific past makes the location relevant for understanding the prehistoric world.

The park's name, Gondava, is presented as "the great valley of the dinosaurs." Its stated aim is not only entertainment but education: activities are designed around themes such as evolution, the form and movement of animals, feeding modes, and the organs and their functions, for all ages and school levels. A dig zone recreates the discovery of a titanoboa, the giant snake found at Cerrejón, La Guajira.

The 34-hectare grounds are explored on foot along trails that pass the animal replicas, and two lakes lie within the site: one holds the aquatic species, the other is used for rowboat rides. A maze, children's play areas and a simulated excavation zone are also part of the route, so allow several hours and wear shoes suited to walking.
