Barriles, Archaeological site in Chiriquí Province, Panama.
The site contains significant stone sculptures, earthenware collections, and ancient tools scattered across elevated terrain at 1200 meters above sea level.
Archaeological investigations reveal that between 300 and 900 CE, Barriles functioned as a settlement center with a population reaching 1000 inhabitants.
The stone artifacts and burial mounds at Barriles demonstrate the social structure of pre-Columbian communities through their arrangement and ceremonial purposes.
Visitors need to obtain permits before exploring certain sections of the site, which remains open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM.
The site received its name from distinctive stone barrels discovered in the 1920s, which represent specialized craftsmanship of ancient Panama inhabitants.
