The building was completed in 2007 by architect Fajardo Moreno and developer Btesh & Virzi Promoción Inmobiliaria, marking an important moment in Panama City's growth. This project influenced how residential towers would be designed in the region in the years that followed.

Aqualina Tower takes its name from the water, fitting for a tower in Punta Pacífica facing the Pacific. Its 63 floors of apartments made it, in 2008, the tallest building in Panama City, a position it held briefly before newer towers surpassed it. Today it ranks eleventh in height in the city and second in Punta Pacífica, after the 284-meter Trump Ocean Club.
