Bayano Caves

Bayano Caves is a limestone cave system with multiple interconnected chambers near Lake Bayano. An underground river flows through the caves and allows partial exploration by boat in the main chamber.

The cave formations developed over millions of years through water erosion in limestone. This process shaped the passages and chambers we see today and continues to change them slowly.

The caves hold meaning in local oral traditions passed down through generations. People from the region visit to maintain their connection to the land and their ancestral roots.

Visitors should bring waterproof gear and sturdy shoes since the paths are wet and slippery. It helps to arrange reservations beforehand and arrive early in the day to have enough time for exploring.

The rear chambers are reached only by crawling through tight passages, creating an intimate and memorable experience. These hidden areas also house large bat colonies and specialized habitats rarely seen by visitors.
