Unellez Botanical Garden covers 14 hectares inside the Universidad Nacional Experimental de los Llanos Occidentales Ezequiel Zamora in Barinas, at 200 m elevation near the Cordillera de los Andes. Its plant collections are grouped into an arboretum of 34 species, 100 ornamental species, 50 species of economic interest, a palmetum of 13 species, and medicinal and forage plants. A 4-hectare lagoon holds cachamas, palometas and pavón copaneca and attracts herons, corocoras and macaws.

The garden is run by the Fundación Jardín Botánico Ezequiel Zamora inside the UNELLEZ campus in Barinas, at 200 m elevation near the Cordillera de los Andes. It is a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International, with the international botanical code BARNS, which also identifies its herbarium. Its germplasm bank holds 84 accessions of 73 species, figures recorded in 1994.

The garden runs educational programmes with talks, workshops, a library and an audiovisual room, and organises holiday plans for visitors. It also sells teaching material on its forest and fruit trees and on the animals kept there. The institution is named after Ezequiel Zamora, the federalist leader of the llanos.

The garden is open Monday through Friday with limited hours, and group tours can be arranged in advance. It is best to visit in the morning and check local conditions before your visit.

The garden's germplasm bank holds 84 accessions representing 73 species, a mid-term conservation collection documented in 1994. Its international botanical code is BARNS, the same identifier used for its herbarium. The garden is a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International.
