Municipio Mara

Municipio Mara is an administrative municipality in Zulia State in northern Venezuela. The territory is divided into several parishes and is home to a substantial population spread across multiple settlements.

The area was founded in 1887 as District Mara and gained its current municipal status in 1989 through constitutional reforms. This transformation was part of Venezuela's broader administrative reorganization.

Wayuu and Añu indigenous communities have shaped local traditions and music that visitors can observe in daily life across the settlements. Their cultural practices remain visible in customs and social gatherings throughout the region.

San Rafael de El Moján serves as the administrative center, providing government services and connections to neighboring regions. The city offers the main reference points for administrative matters and local services.
