Palm Beach, Coastal tourist district and beach in northern Aruba.
Palm Beach is a beach area on the northern coast of Aruba with hotels, shops and restaurants along a two-mile bay. The sand stretches between piers and resorts while small boats anchor offshore.
The site received its name from a coconut plantation that Captain R.J. Beaujon named after the Florida beach. Hotels appeared from the 1960s onward when Aruba became a travel destination.
Local families use the bay for weekend picnics while sailors and surfers appreciate the steady breeze. Beach bars serve fresh fish and Caribbean dishes that visitors enjoy under palm trees.
Two large shopping centers, Paseo Herencia and Palm Beach Plaza Mall, offer shops, cinemas and restaurants for rainy days or evenings. The bay is easily accessible on foot or by bus and offers many open beach sections between hotel areas.
Wind blows here at a steady 15 miles per hour (25 kilometers per hour), which can make swimming challenging for children. Many visitors prefer the sheltered coves south of the main hotels.
