Heroico Colegio Militar, Military academy in Tlalpan, Mexico.
The Heroico Colegio Militar is a military academy in Tlalpan, Mexico, that trains officers for the Mexican armed forces. The campus includes classroom buildings, cadet dormitories, sports facilities, and training areas spread across an extended site.
The academy was founded in 1823 in the former Palace of the Inquisition in Mexico City and moved to Tlalpan in 1976. Congress granted the institution its heroic designation in 1949, honoring cadets who fought at Chapultepec Castle during the war with the United States.
The academy maintains traditional military ceremonies and forms officers according to principles of honor while incorporating modern military science and tactical instruction methods.
Access is restricted to authorized personnel and registered visitors, and the grounds follow strict security protocols. Public events or ceremonies may take place on special occasions when visitors are temporarily admitted.
Six cadets defended Chapultepec Castle to the death in 1847 and are honored today as the Niños Héroes. Their names are inscribed on monuments across the country, and their sacrifice remains a central part of Mexican national memory.
