Pharr–Reynosa International Bridge, International crossing between Texas and Tamaulipas at Rio Grande.
The Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge is a road bridge on the US-Mexico border that crosses the Rio Grande, linking Pharr in Texas with Reynosa in Tamaulipas. It carries multiple traffic lanes and includes dedicated inspection areas on both sides for processing vehicles and goods.
The bridge opened in 1994, replacing older and less capable crossings in the area. Its opening coincided with the launch of NAFTA, which drove a large increase in cross-border trade between the US and Mexico.
The bridge connects the Texas city of Pharr with the Mexican city of Reynosa, and it is used daily by commuters, traders, and families crossing between the two countries. On both sides, customs and border inspection facilities are clearly visible and shape the rhythm of everyday crossings.
Wait times at the crossing vary a lot depending on the time of day, and early morning tends to move faster than midday or late afternoon. Travelers should have valid travel documents ready, as border checks are required on both sides.
This crossing is one of the most active entry points for fresh fruit and vegetables from Mexico into the US, and much of the produce stocking American supermarkets in winter passes through here. Refrigerated facilities sit right at the crossing to keep perishable goods from spoiling during inspection.
