UTPA Fieldhouse, Sports arena in Edinburg, United States
The UTPA Fieldhouse is a university sports facility in Edinburg, Texas, where the home basketball and volleyball teams play their games. The building sits near North 5th Street and West Van Week Street and has seating for around 2,500 spectators.
The building was constructed in 1969 as a sports center for Pan American University and quickly became the main hub of athletic life on campus. When the institution became the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2015, the facility kept its central role in campus sports.
Banners hanging inside the building display the names of former players and teams, making the history of campus sports visible to anyone who walks in. Students and families from the surrounding area fill the seats on game days, turning each match into a local gathering.
The fieldhouse is easy to reach on foot from the main campus, and arriving early for popular games helps you find a good seat. Parking is available nearby, but spaces fill up quickly on busy game days.
In the early 1980s, the Pan American University basketball team was among the strongest in regional college sports, and this building was their home court. Supporters drove in from surrounding towns specifically to watch their games here.
