Kelly Field, Military air base in San Antonio, United States.

Kelly Field is a military air base in San Antonio where the Air Force Reserve and Texas Air National Guard operate jointly. The facility sits on flat terrain across 700 acres and maintains two runways for daily flight operations.

The base was established in 1917 as a primary flight training school during World War I, preparing pilots for combat. After that conflict, the facility transitioned to serve changing military needs and evolved into a modern air operations center.

During World War II, female workers known as Kelly Katies contributed to the base operations, marking a shift in military workplace demographics.

The site is an active military installation, so access may be restricted and visitors should plan accordingly. Check current visiting policies and be prepared to follow security protocols before attempting entry.

The Kelly Field Historic District preserves 39 buildings constructed between 1940 and 1943 featuring Art Moderne, Mediterranean, and Spanish Colonial Revival design elements. These structures showcase architectural choices made during a significant period of military expansion and modernization.
