Terrell Hills, Residential suburb in Bexar County, Texas, United States
Terrell Hills is a residential city in Bexar County located northeast of downtown San Antonio, near Fort Sam Houston. The place covers a compact area of about 1.6 square miles with tree-lined streets and single-family homes.
Frederick Terrell initiated development of the area in 1919 by selling land to the community organization bearing his name. The city later fought to maintain its independence when San Antonio sought to annex it.
The place is closely tied to education, with families relying on nearby school districts that shape daily routines and community priorities. Schools here serve as gathering points where neighbors meet and local life centers around family activities.
The City Hall at 5100 N New Braunfels Avenue serves as the main point for municipal services, with offices open on weekdays. The area is best explored on foot to see the residential character and tree-lined streets.
In 1945 the city won a legal battle to prevent annexation by San Antonio without holding a local election. This fight to stay independent became a defining moment in the community's history.
