Kenedy, city in Karnes County, Texas, United States
Kenedy is a small city in Karnes County, Texas, positioned along U.S. Highway 181 and State Highway 72. The streets feature a mix of older buildings and newer homes, with historic railroad structures, modest shops, and local services scattered throughout the town center.
The city was founded in 1886 after the railroad reached the region and quickly became an important trading hub. German farmers brought agricultural skills, while cotton growing and later oil, gas, and uranium extraction shaped the local economy over time.
The town is named after the man who helped bring the railroad to the area. Today, community events like Blue Bonnet Days in April bring people together to celebrate local traditions and shared history.
The city is easily reached via Highways 181 and 72 and sits only a few miles from Karnes City. Visitors find small shops, cafes, and local services with most places within walking distance of each other.
The town was long known as 'Six Shooter Junction' because of gunfight stories from the early 1900s. Mineral water was discovered near the train station in 1915, attracting visitors who came to use the famous bathhouse.
