Rothko Chapel, Non-denominational chapel and art museum in Houston, United States
The octagonal brick building contains fourteen dark-colored murals by Mark Rothko spread across three walls in triptychs and individual paintings.
John and Dominique de Menil commissioned Mark Rothko in 1964 to create this meditative space, which opened its doors to the public in 1971.
The chapel maintains a collection of religious texts from different faiths and hosts international exchanges focusing on human rights and philosophical discussions.
Visitors can access the Welcome House from Tuesday through Sunday between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM while the main chapel undergoes repairs.
A large sculpture called Broken Obelisk by Barnett Newman stands in front of the chapel, dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
