Shadow Lawn Historic District, Historic residential district in Austin, United States.
Shadow Lawn Historic District is a residential neighborhood in Austin featuring Tudor Revival houses with masonry veneer exteriors along tree-lined streets. The homes occupy properties between 38th and 39th streets, with buildings situated along Avenue G, Avenue H, and Duval Street.
Monroe M. Shipe developed this area as a planned residential subdivision in the 1920s, drawn from the Tinsley Tract landholding. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
The neighborhood developed in the 1920s with Tudor Revival houses that show careful craftsmanship and quality in their design. Residents chose expensive masonry veneer instead of wood siding, showing how much they valued durability and appearance in their homes.
The streets are easy to explore on foot since the properties are concentrated within a compact area of just a few blocks. Visitors can walk through and view the houses from different angles to appreciate their architectural details.
About 25 of the original houses retain their architectural elements from the early 1900s development, making them less common than many other residential areas in the region. These homes display their period details in brick work and trim, showing how little the style has changed over time.
