Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum
Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, Sculpture garden and art museum in South Austin, Texas.
Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum is a six-acre garden displaying over 50 bronze sculptures set among ponds, waterfalls, and native Texas plants. The site blends artwork with the natural landscape of the area.
Charles Umlauf taught sculpture and life drawing at the University of Texas Art Department from 1941 to 1981, creating numerous works during this period. His long career at the university formed the foundation for the collection and museum today.
The garden features bronze figurative sculptures by Charles Umlauf alongside rotating contemporary artworks displayed both indoors and outdoors. Visitors experience these pieces directly while discovering how different artistic approaches are presented in the same space.
The site is open Tuesday through Sunday with paved gravel trails providing full wheelchair accessibility throughout the grounds. The flat pathways make it comfortable for visitors with varying mobility needs.
Visitors can touch and interact with the bronze sculptures in the garden, setting it apart from typical museum experiences. This hands-on approach creates an immediate connection between viewer and artwork.
