Long Center for the Performing Arts, Performance theater in Downtown Austin, United States.
The Long Center for the Performing Arts is a modern theater building in downtown Austin with two performance halls of different sizes. The Dell Hall seats approximately 2,400 people, while the Studio Theatre holds up to 229 spectators and serves smaller productions and experimental work.
The building opened in 2008 following collaboration between several local arts organizations seeking a shared performance venue. Nearly 95 percent of its construction materials came from salvaging and recycling the former Palmer Auditorium.
The venue hosts the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Opera, and Ballet Austin as resident companies that perform throughout the year. These organizations shape the cultural calendar and bring diverse artistic presentations to the community.
The venue is located on Riverside Drive and offers parking facilities including both self-parking and valet service for easy arrival by car. The building features multiple accessible entrances to accommodate visitors of varying mobility needs.
A striking feature is how the building incorporates materials from its predecessor, connecting the venue to its artistic heritage. This sustainable approach to construction demonstrates thoughtful design that honors what came before.
