Luckenbach, Musical ghost town in Gillespie County, Texas.
Luckenbach is a settlement in Gillespie County, Texas, roughly 13 miles from Fredericksburg. The place now consists of a general store with a post office counter and a dance hall set among the rolling hills of the region.
German settlers founded the community in the 1840s and named it after Jacob Luckenbach, who arrived in 1846. The place later lost population but remained as a gathering spot for musicians and visitors.
The dance hall hosts regular country music evenings and draws musicians from across the region. Visitors experience Texas musical traditions in a relaxed setting with performances by local bands and occasional bigger names.
Visitors reach the place via Farm to Market Road 1376 from Fredericksburg. The store sells souvenirs and drinks during daytime, with hours varying by season.
In 2009 several hundred guitarists set a world record here by playing simultaneously. The event drew musicians from across the country and demonstrated the musical importance of this small place.
