Sam Houston Memorial Museum

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum spans fifteen acres on the original homestead of General Sam Houston, featuring historic buildings, exhibits, and landscaped gardens that preserve the legacy of this Texas leader.

Established on the site where Sam Houston lived with his family, the museum preserves the homestead of the man who led Texas to independence and served as the Republic's first president.

The museum serves as a major educational resource, hosting over 10,000 visitors annually including 124 school groups, offering living history programs and reenactments that celebrate Texas heritage.

The museum operates Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and Sundays from noon to 4:30 PM, with admission fees of six dollars for adults and discounts for seniors, students, and veterans.

The museum grounds feature an artificial river designed by groundskeeper Peter Grivich, who received the 2019 Staff Excellence Award for his innovative landscaping contributions to the property.
