Huntsville State Park, State park in Walker County, Texas
Huntsville State Park is a 2,083-acre park in Walker County featuring Lake Raven surrounded by tall pine forests. The property includes 21 miles of marked trails that wind through the East Texas Pineywoods landscape.
The park was built between 1937 and 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1823, who constructed the dam and boathouse. This early development established the foundation for the recreation areas and infrastructure visitors use today.
The park serves as a place where visitors and students connect with the local forest ecosystem and learn about the natural history of the East Texas Pineywoods. Educational programs focus on helping people understand the wildlife and habitats that define this region.
The park provides 160 campsites and screened shelters for different comfort levels along with multiple boat ramps and fishing piers. You can find a store on the grounds selling camping equipment and groceries.
The lake is home to crappie, bass, and catfish that draw anglers throughout the year. Alligators occasionally inhabit the waters, adding an element of wild nature that defines this part of Texas.
