Mustang, Ghost town in Navarro County, Texas, United States
Mustang is a former town in Navarro County, Texas, situated along Interstate 45 approximately 60 miles south of Dallas. The settlement spans about 75 acres, though most structures have been demolished or abandoned, leaving a mostly empty landscape with scattered foundations.
The settlement separated from neighboring Angus in 1973 to permit independent alcohol sales and local autonomy. This split marked a turning point that eventually contributed to the town's gradual decline over the following decades.
The town carries the legacy of the Wallace family, whose descendants have called this place home since its founding. Visitors walking through can sense the deep roots these early settlers established in the area.
The area is accessible from Interstate 45 and free to visit, making it easy to reach from the surrounding region. Expect minimal facilities or services on-site, as the place is largely undeveloped open land with few visitor amenities.
The town was purchased in 2021 by Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, to assist a friend's family facing health challenges. This unusual transaction brought unexpected attention to the otherwise forgotten place.
