Mineral Wells, Mineral water springs in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Mineral Wells is a small town in North Texas that extends across parts of Palo Pinto and Parker counties. The area includes residential neighborhoods, a compact downtown with shops, and public parks at the edges of town.
The first settlers arrived in this area during the 1870s, but the discovery of mineral-rich water in 1880 fundamentally changed the development of the place. Over the following decades, spa houses and hotels were built that drew guests from across the country.
The town takes its name from the mineral springs discovered here in the late 19th century, which continue to shape local identity today. Several buildings in the historic district still stand from the spa era, reminding visitors of the earlier function as a health resort.
The downtown area is walkable, while visiting the nearby state park requires a car. Most facilities are at ground level and easily accessible, though some trails in the park can be uneven.
In some older houses you can still see water pipes that led directly from the wells into the buildings, supplying fresh mineral water to guests. These installations recall the time when the water was drawn straight from the ground as a remedy.
