Baker Hotel, Historic hotel in Mineral Wells, United States.
The Baker Hotel is a historic hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas, United States. It spans 14 stories, contains 165 rooms, and features facilities that once utilized the town's mineral spring water.
The building opened in November 1929 following a design by architect Wyatt C. Hedrick, who based his work on the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It closed in 1972 and later gained listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
The name comes from Theodore Baker, a local businessman who financed the construction to attract visitors seeking healing through mineral springs. The architecture combines Chicago School influences with Mission Revival elements, giving the building its distinctive appearance.
The building is currently undergoing extensive renovation and is expected to reopen as a luxury resort in spring 2026. Visitors can view the facade and surrounding area in the downtown district now.
An advanced hydraulic system once circulated ice water to every guest room, while the lighting was automatically controlled by door locks. These technical innovations were exceptional for the 1920s.
