Chandor Gardens

Chandor Gardens is a historic garden in Weatherford spanning multiple terraces with reflecting pools, stone walkways, and fountains. The property includes several distinct landscaped sections with varied plantings and architectural features throughout.

Douglas Chandor, a portrait painter who worked for prominent figures, created these gardens beginning in 1936 as his private residence project. The site later gained recognition as a Texas historic landmark and was added to the national registry of historic places.

The gardens show a blend of European and Chinese design ideas that you can see in how the water features and plants are arranged throughout. Walking through the different areas, you notice these influences in the stone paths and the way each section is shaped.

The gardens are located at 711 West Lee Street in Weatherford and open during select weekdays. Visitors should arrange visits in advance since most access is through guided tours.

The gardens feature a collection of decorative bronze sculptures integrated throughout the landscape, including a life-sized portrait bust of the founder created by sculptor Michael Pavlovsky. These artworks add another layer to understanding the artistic vision behind the entire site.
