Flower Mound is a residential town in Denton County, northern Texas, situated between the Dallas and Fort Worth metro areas. The hill that gives the town its name rises roughly 50 feet (15 meters) above the surrounding terrain and supports wildflowers and prairie grasses on its summit.
The town incorporated in 1961 to avoid being annexed by the neighboring city of Irving. Population numbers grew considerably after the opening of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport in the 1970s.
The Summit Club, established in 1974, organizes community events and maintains local traditions through volunteer activities and social gatherings.
The town sits between two major metro areas and can be reached via several highways. Schools and shopping centers spread across the community.
Paleontologists discovered dinosaur fossils within town limits in 1994. The site attracted researchers from several countries in the following years.
