Golden is an unincorporated community in Wood County, Texas, located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 1799 and 779 northwest of Mineola. The settlement sits in the southwestern section of the county with scattered residences spread across rural land.
The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad built a line through the area in 1881 and named the settlement after railroad engineer John Golden. This rail connection shaped the community's early growth and establishment.
Since 1982, residents gather every fourth Saturday in October for the Sweet Potato Festival, a harvest celebration that gained national recognition through The Oprah Winfrey Show.
