Kaufman County encompasses 808 square miles of land and water, bordered by the Trinity River in the southwestern section of the territory.

The county was established in 1848 and received its name from David S. Kaufman, a United States Representative who served as a diplomat from Texas.

The county population of 145,310 residents represents a diverse mix of ethnicities, with substantial white, Hispanic, African American, and Asian American communities.

Major transportation routes include Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 80, and U.S. Highway 175, connecting residents to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding areas.

The county experienced unprecedented growth, receiving recognition from the US Census Bureau as the fastest-expanding county over 100,000 inhabitants in 2022.
