Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Dallas, Texas.
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a botanical garden along White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas, covering roughly 27 hectares (66 acres). Interpreted trails lead through themed gardens with seasonal flowers, trees, and plantings organized by color, use, or origin.
The garden originated in 1982 when the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Society merged the DeGolyer and Camp estates into a nonprofit garden site. Both properties had previously belonged to wealthy families who built country homes and gardens along the lakeshore.
Two historic residences from the 1930s stand within this botanical complex: the DeGolyer House in Spanish Colonial Revival style and the Alex Camp House designed by John Staub. Visitors can walk through the rooms of these homes and see how wealthy families lived along White Rock Lake in the 20th century.
Members receive unlimited admission throughout the year, parking privileges, access to exclusive events, and discounts at garden facilities. The paths are paved and suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, but some areas sit on hills and involve longer inclines.
The Trial Gardens test over 1.4 million plants to determine which species and cultivars perform well in this climate. The findings feed into regional and national databases so gardeners everywhere can make better choices.
