Children's Aquarium at Fair Park, Public aquarium in Fair Park, Dallas, US
The Children's Aquarium at Fair Park is a public aquarium in Dallas displaying animals from different water worlds, from freshwater through tidal zones and shorelines to near shore and open ocean. The exhibits present these environments side by side so visitors can experience the differences directly.
The aquarium opened in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial Exposition, a major celebration of the state's hundredth birthday. It was later substantially renewed and modernized to create more current living spaces for the animals.
The name reflects its focus on younger visitors, and the exhibits are designed so children can observe aquatic life at eye level throughout the building. Visitors find themselves invited to spend time exploring the different water environments at their own pace.
The facility opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with final admission at 4:30 PM. The location sits within Fair Park, and exhibits throughout the building are accessible without major elevation changes.
A special area is the Stingray Bay, an outdoor covered pavilion where visitors can touch stingrays. Cownose rays, southern stingrays, zebra sharks, and Mahi-mahi swim there and guests can handle them directly.
