Wilson Block, Historic district on Swiss Avenue, Dallas, United States
The Wilson Block is a historic district featuring four Victorian houses constructed between 1899 and 1902 along Swiss Avenue in east Dallas. The buildings are positioned at 2902, 2906, 2910, and 2922 Swiss Avenue, forming a cohesive group of restored residences from the Queen Anne architectural period.
Frederick Wilson and Henrietta Frichot purchased the land in 1898 and built their residence along with several rental houses that formed the foundation of this district. These structures were part of the early development phase when east Dallas was becoming an established residential area.
The buildings now house non-profit organizations that serve the local community from these restored Victorian homes. Visitors can see how historical spaces have been repurposed to support social work and community services.
The district is bounded by Swiss Avenue, Floyd Street, Oak Street, and Liberty Street, making it easy to walk through and view all the buildings together. The four houses are positioned closely enough that visitors can see the details of the Queen Anne architecture and understand the layout of this historic neighborhood.
The Wilson House originally included separate quarters for household servants and a carriage house, features not found in the other buildings of the block. These additional structures reveal the wealth and social standing of the family who built the main residence.
