100 North Central Expressway, Skyscraper in Main Street District, Dallas, US
100 North Central Expressway is a twelve-story office tower in downtown Dallas with a glass and metal exterior. The building sits beside a seven-story parking structure that was constructed as part of the original development.
The building was constructed in 1958 and opened in 1960 as the headquarters for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. It became one of the early major corporate offices that helped shape downtown Dallas as a business center.
The structure exemplifies mid-century commercial architecture with its bronze, silver, and gray glass exterior, reflecting the design preferences of American corporate buildings.
The tower sits at a major intersection making it easy to locate and there is parking available on site. Walking from the Main Street District to reach this building takes only a few minutes.
The building once featured a large electronic message board on its roof that displayed rotating messages multiple times per minute. This illuminated sign was a notable feature of the Dallas skyline during the 1960s and early 1970s.
